Culture is made up of many diverse components that keep changing, evolving and blend together through the pass of time. The development of technology, transportation and globalization has a large impact on culture and cultural heritage. In this context we are developing innovative technologies to preserve in a meaningful way the fading tangible cultural heritage and safeguard aspects of its intangible forms, by employing novel AI, machine learning, computer vision, semantically-aware XR methodologies and digital twins.
M4D is aiming to support cultural and creative industries (CCIs) through the development of tools and services for the promotion, management, preservation and dissemination of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The use of suitable innovative technology opens new ways to the delivery of content, with multiple media forms, approaches and efficient access that make the user understand and relate to it. Also with the use of IoT, big data analysis and semantics the researchers can understand, interpret and reinterpret cultural heritage from the vast and diverse amount of available data. Our goal is to promote new technological approaches from a cultural perspective that comes from the collaboration and symbiosis of culture and tech.
Key research and development activities of M4D in the Culture domain include:
- IoT / Big data / Machine learning
- Multimedia Retrieval and Indexing
- Visual analysis for 3D representation
- Web-GIS / Route planning
- Semantic technologies
- Interoperability and Linked Data
- VR/AR environments
- Human Computer Interaction
