Border Surveillance is aiming to support border authorities in risk detection, relevant incident response and crime prevention, by enhancing the capabilities of the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR) and boosting cooperation between EU Member States. The primary goal is to provide solutions for the challenges that they face daily , such as heterogeneous threats, low situational awareness, wideness of the surveyed area and complex operational environments, that can be worsened by adverse weather conditions.
M4D is combining research in computer vision, decision support and multimodal data fusion, in order to produce autonomous systems that will facilitate the daily activities of key personnel οn land, air and sea. Technology advancements such as robotic platforms, sensors and early warning methods, are part of the proposed systems, having as a goal to detect security incidents and events, natural disasters, environmental threats, and improve search and rescue capabilities. Our activities in all the aforementioned research domains include land and maritime scenarios for border surveillance, following the needs of the relevant agencies and their existing systems, formulating an integrated and effective surveillance system. Therefore, enhanced situational awareness and crisis management are targeted, providing better insight to the responsible personnel, in situations where time management is of the essence.
